I'll Fly Away...
Just got back from my great uncle's funeral. Boy, was that hard to get through! My mascara wasn't waterproof, so I was barely making it. I didn't actually know my Uncle Pat really well. Of course I knew him well, after all, he is my family. But not as well as my own grandparents, if that makes any sense. It was hard seeing my family so upset. I think it was the first time I had seen my grandpa and my dad cry before. Memories of Uncle Pat were shared, which made me laugh, and cry. My cousins made a few jokes that only Miller's would understand. It was so funny how we were cracking up, but no one else understood. At the funeral, they played the song I'll Fly Away. It fit the event perfectly, if you know the song. But I think it meant more to my family and I. Two or so years ago, we had a family get-together. My sister brought her guitar, and my cousin Glen brought his banjo. We all gathered in Uncle Pat's living room. Then, together, we all sang the song, I'll Fly Away. Hearing that song today took me back to that unforgettable memory. It reminded me how blessed I am to have a big family who loves me. No, their not perfect. No one is. But they're a blessing from God. There are tons of people out there who don't have families. But I got one, a good one.
